CHEMICAL PEEL

Chemical Peels
are safe and effective treatments to rejuvenate and improve the appearance of the skin. Chemical peels are also an excellent part of acne treatment. We use chemical peels that gently remove the outer most layer of dead skin cells. Patients can return to their daily routine immediately after the peel without down time for healing or concerns about their appearance.

Chemical Peels can be used to:
Improve and control acne breakouts
Decongest pores and remove blackheads
Improve the appearance of sun/age spots and melasma
Revitalize the skin for a more youthful appearance
Exfoliate and soften rough textured skin
Improve uneven skin tone or color

How do chemical peels work?

Peeling agents are applied to the skin’s surface. The peels remove the top most layers of dead skin cells. This process exfoliates and revitalizes the skin as well as creating a number of other responses including:
Increased production of healthy new skin cells
Stimulation of collagen production
Decongestion of pores and clearing of black heads
Dispersion and lightening of pigment in sun/age spots and melasma
Clear and control acne breakouts

Are chemical peels safe?

Complications from superficial chemical peels are extremely rare. Possible side effects may include a mild stinging sensation, itching, or redness during the procedures. Occasionally, patients may experience mild redness or peeling for 24 to 72 hours following the peel.

How many peels will I need?

The number of treatments needed is variable depending upon:

The type of condition being treated
The severity of the skin condition
The desired result of the patient

Most patients require a series of 6 or more treatments. Once patients have attained optimal results we strongly recommend continuing with their prescribed home skin care regimen and maintenance chemical peels every 12-16 weeks, depending upon the type of chemical peel used.

What type of peels do you offer?

Salicylic Peels are beta hydroxy acids (BHAs) that penetrate pores to dissolve sebum (oil) and dead skin cells. By accelerating the cell renewal process, stimulating collagen synthesis, and improving elastin fibers in the dermis, this light chemical peel improves the appearance of rough, textured skin and skin discolorations and helps control acne breakouts and blackheads.

Skinceuticals Salicylic and Mandelic Gel Peels
Combined, salicylic and mandelic acid work synergistically to exfoliate the skin while decongesting pores and reducing irritation. Although one of the strongest AHAs, mandelic acid’s large molecular structure and even penetration help prevent inflammation and irritation that can sometimes occur with AHA use. This peel is ideal as a companion treatment for microdermabrasion.

La Roche-Posay MicroPeel Plus
An in office procedure utilizing salicylic and glycolic acids is an excellent treatment for acne. This peel provides:
Control acne breakouts
Reduce oil production
Reduce blackheads and a decrease the appearance of large pores
Smooth rough skin texture

Treatments are recommended every 2-4 weeks for 4-6 treatments to obtain desired results. Once optimal results are achieved, maintenance treatments should be once every one to two months along with prescribed home skin care regimen.

Glycolic and Lactic Peels are alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs) that exfoliate the skin while reducing irritation and dryness. Because of glycolic acid’s molecular structure, it penetrates quicker and deeper than other AHAs to perform at all levels of the skin. Lactic acid is an effective yet gentle AHA that increases moisture levels in the skin by stimulating the production of glycosaminoglycans. By increasing the cellular renewal rate, stimulating collagen synthesis, and improving elastic fibers in the dermis, this chemical peel revitalizes undamaged skin and helps reduce the appearance of fine lines and hyperpigmentation.

Skinceuticals Glycolic/Lactic Gel Peel

La Roche-Posay MicroPeel
This is a three-step exfoliation process that removes the top layer of dead skin cells, stimulating an increased production of new healthy skin cells and collagen. This helps reduce the appearance of fines lines, hyperpigmentation, and rough textured skin. The MicroPeel leaves the skin surface with a radiant, healthy glow. Results are enhanced when patients return every 2-4 weeks for a MicroPeel during the treatment series. A series of 4-6 treatments are essential to achieve desired and realistic results. Once desired results are achieved, maintenance is recommended every 1-2 months along with a prescribed home skin care regimen.
