Intense Pulse Light (IPL) is an innovative
light treatment used to correct skin discoloration associated with sun-damaged
skin. Treatments restore skin to a beautiful even tone. IPL can be used
to treat:
Age Spots
Sun Spots
Brown Spots
Freckles
Redness
Melasma
Poikiloderma
IPL can be used to treat skin discoloration on almost any body part
including:
Face
Neck
Décolleté
Chest
Hands
Arms
Legs
Back & Shoulders
The light delivered in this treatment is selectively absorbed by the
excess pigment and/or tiny blood vessels on your skin. The heating of
the pigmented areas causes a reaction which clears the discolored areas.
An added benefit of this heating is the stimulation of collagen which
can help smooth the skin texture.
IPL is safe and effective. Common side effects include mild stinging
during the treatment. After the treatment you may experience mild discomfort,
similar to mild sunburn. This sensation often lasts less than 24 hours.
Immediately following the IPL pigmented areas that have been treated
may darken. You may also notice a slight redness of the surrounding
skin. This typically resolves in 12-24 hours. Over the course of the
next 1-2 weeks the darkened spots will fade or flake off.
Typically a series of 4-6 treatments are required for optimal results.
The actual number of treatments needed is dependant upon:
The
severity of sun damage and skin discoloration
The length of time the discoloration has been present
The cause of the discoloration
The desired result of the patient
We offer a $50 consultation, at which time we can
provide an estimate of cost for you.
